Music is often acknowledged as the only international language. It is an art form that crosses boundaries and social groups, that inspires, supports and accompanies every moment in our lives. Those who have and can develop ‘musical intelligence’ have a passport to go wherever they like in the world.
Unit 1: Perform one or more solo or ensemble piece(s) lasting between 5-6 minutes (grade 5 standard).
Unit 2: Complete one 3-minute composition based on any one of four briefs and a ‘CD sleeve note’.
Unit 3: Exam on musical works and theory
Unit 4: Perform one or more solo and/or ensemble pieces lasting between 12-15 minutes (grade 6 standard).
Unit 5: One 3-minute composition and one technical study.
Unit 6: Students will take a written exam based on the prescribed set works for that year as well as attributes of unfamiliar music.
Music is fully accepted by universities as an academic A Level subject. Career progression includes: Undergraduate Music, Music Technology and Music Therapy.
