English Language

English Language will encourage an enjoyment and appreciation of how the english language functions. The course comprises study of textual variations and their representations; language diversity, language discourses and writing skills and methods of language analysis. This course encourages students to investigate and explore such topics as Linguistics, Socio-linguistics and Discourse Analysis. Phonetics, Dialect, Semantics, Grammar and Discourse.


AS English Language
Stand alone qualification to be completed during Year 12.

Paper 1: Language and the Individual.
Paper 2: Language Varieties.

A Level English Language
A Level English Language is a two year course comprising three papers at the end of Year 13.

Paper 1: Examines Language, The Individual and Society including Child Acquisition and Development of Language (0 – 11 years).
Paper 2: Examines Language Diversity including Language Changes and Writing Skills.
Paper 3: Is an Independent Language Investigation (coursework) selected by student with teacher advice. This unit will explore Language in Action.
